What accessibility standards do we follow?
We aim to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This is our benchmark for all new and updated content on morgenbericht.de, the site operated by Morgenberich Media Ltd.
Our editorial team, led by Chefredaktör Christian Busch, treats accessibility as an ongoing priority rather than a one‑time fix. We review our code, design and editorial output against the four WCAG principles: perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. Conformance is assessed internally and through third‑party audits.
How do we ensure keyboard navigation and visible focus?
All interactive elements on Morgenbericht – links, buttons, forms and media controls – can be operated using a keyboard alone. A visible focus indicator is applied to each element as you tab through the page.
We test navigation with common keyboard commands (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Escape and arrow keys) across major browsers. Our development team has built skip‑to‑content links at the top of every page so that keyboard users can bypass repeated header navigation. Focus order follows a logical page structure that matches the visual layout.
What about contrast and reduced motion?
Text and non‑text content (such as icons and chart elements) are designed to meet a minimum colour contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. We avoid relying solely on colour to convey information.
For readers who prefer reduced motion, we respect the operating system setting prefers-reduced-motion. When this is active, our site disables automatic animations, parallax effects and transitions. Nothing on Morgenbericht auto‑plays video or audio unless the user chooses to play it.
What are our known limitations?
Some older articles that predate our current accessibility policy may not fully meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. In particular, a small number of embedded images lack descriptive alt text, and a few complex data tables may not have proper row/column headers.
We are actively remediating this legacy content. The fact‑checking team, led by Helena Jäger, has added a review step for alt text on new images. If you encounter a specific page that is difficult to use, please email accessibility@morgenbericht.de – we will prioritise it for correction. Our corrections policy also applies to accessibility flaws.
What you can expect from us
We treat accessibility as part of our editorial mission – trustworthy journalism must be accessible to everyone. Our team will respond to your accessibility feedback within two business days and will work to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
